Amy Chase an intelligent and beautiful, woman of 24 years was the second wife of  Mr. Tanner M. Chase, the famous, all American pitcher, for the Los Angeles Tigers.  On this warm Sunday, afternoon, Amy Chase, was picking up the leaves in the front yard of her new home, when she

looked up, and saw her husband, Tanner, known to the American public as TC.  He was parked on the wrong side of the street.  Amy was surprised, yet happy, to see her estranged, husband.  She motioned to him, to put his car in the driveway.

Just as TC was about to move, his car into the drive way, a late model, black SUV, with tented windows, raced around the corner, and suddenly stopped in front of Amy's house.

TC didn’t want a confutation, so he decided to wait and see who was in the SUV, before making his presence known.

A young man, jumped out of the driver's side of the SUV, and followed Amy to the side of the house where she was disposing the leaves.

Several seconds later, the same man jumped, back into the SUV, almost as quickly as he had jumped out, and rushed, away.  As the SUV raced pass TC, he turned his head to get a look at the license plate, only to realize, there was no license plates on the vehicle.

TC felt a cold chill.  His body begin to tense up, as he waited for his attractive wife, to reappear.

Within seconds, TC heard loud screams, from what appeared, to be a neighbor who was running crossing the street, headed   to the side of Amy's house.

TC jumped out of his car and sprinted like a cat, to find out why the neighbor was screaming.

Once TC reached the side of the house, he was frightened by what he saw. Amy was laying on the ground.  There was blood all over her face, and on the ground, under her head.

The neighbor had taken off her blouse, to help wipe Amy's face and mouth.  Amy was moaning with pain, and TC saw a deep gash, on the right side of Amy's face.

When Amy saw TC, she became more excited and started saying “No. No. No, make him go away.” She almost chocked on her own blood, yelling for TC to leave.

Just at that moment a police officer came between TC, and the frightening site of Amy.  He demanded to know what had happened, as he placed his hand on his weapon.

The neighbor immediately responded, in a high pitch voice, “I called because, a man got out of his car and attacked Mrs. Chase."   She then took a deep breath and screamed, “We need an ambulance, NOW!”

The police officer said, very softly, yet firmly, “Calm down, calm down, help is on the way.”

During the entire time, Amy was motioning for TC to go away.

TC felt that maybe she didn’t want him to see her that way. It wasn't until later, at the police station that he learn the truth.

The police officer asked TC, when did he arrive?  And than asked him, to sit in his car, until he could question him.

TC turned, and walked slowly back to his automobile.

It was one of the longest walks he had ever made. By the time he reached his automobile, he could hear the sound of several sirens approaching the area.

He sat in his car, and watched as the quite, upscale neighborhood, became a busy crime scene.

As TC sat in in late model Bentley, his mind begin to race from thought to thought.

Why had someone attacked Amy?  Did his ex-wife have something to do with it?  Had she used the money from the divorce settlement, to hire someone to, hurt Amy?

TC's mind continued to race from subject to subject.  He remembered, when he first meet Amy, in Aruba, during a sports promotion. He knew the moment he meet her that he would marry her. Amy was young, beautiful, intelligent, and totally in love, with the idea of being with him.

Eva Chase

He had still been married to Eva when he meet Amy, however, the divorce had already taken place in his own mind, or, at least that’s what he told himself. He had made the transition from his wife, to his girlfriend, in front of the American public.

His courtship with Amy had been intense and very public. Everywhere they went, the pauperizes went. The dating started in Aruba, then Rio, back to Los Angeles and on to Hawaii, then to Tokyo with Paris being the last stop before returning home to announce their engagement.

TC's mind, flashed on his first date with Amy. He was a very large man and she was so small and petite. He had wanted to make a good impression on her and had looked forward to meeting her after one of his team mate's girlfriend's, had strongly suggested that he meet her.

He, remembered wanting Amy to burn with desire for him on their first date, yet he knew that the size of his privates would cause problems with their love making.

Even with him not being able to enter her sexually, that night, he remembered stroking her inner thighs and moving his large fingers between her legs where he massaged her, gently,  until she moaned with passion.

It had been, during his dating spree with Amy, that Eva had a nervous breakdown. His attorney had told him not to worry that the breakdown was a ploy to get more money in the divorce settlement.

All he knew, for sure was, Eva had moved back to Monroe, Louisiana, to be with her family after living in New York City,  while working as a web designer for a top fashion design house.

The press had barely mentioned Eva’s breakdown. TC’s sister had telephoned him with the news about his ex-wife.

After TC and Amy were married, he had purchased an estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in Southern California.  He remembered being upset, after only 18 months of marriage, when Amy informed him that she wanted a divorce.  There had been no real problems in the marriage.  He had never, really understood, her actions.

TC’s thoughts continued to race back and forth as he thought about Eva Montgomery, his high school sweet heart, whom he had married right out of high school.   Eva was a tall, shapely woman, with a sharp tongue. Her slender build, was of model potential, yet she had chosen to marry TC, rather then become a model.

TC slumped into his leather car seat, as thoughts of his mother, and grandmother, popped into his mind.

When he was growing up, in Louisianan, his mother had worked at the cleaners while his grandmother took care of him and his sister. He had a special love for his grandmother and a strong tolerance for his mother. The memory of his grandmother’s death, shortly before he and Eva were divorced, pained him.

He remember his grandmother’s words, “Don’t tamper with love, and God, won’t tamper with you.”

The image of his mother, popped up in his head again, and this time he acknowledged that his relationship with his mother was based on money. The more money he gave her, the more love, she would gave him.  On the other hand, his grandmother, had given, him unconditional love.

Then, suddenly, and without warning, TC's thoughts, flashed back to what really caused the divorce between he, and Eva.

The problem had started shortly after he progressed from the minor leagues, to the major leagues. The wives of his team mates had not responded well to Eva. He knew there had been tension among the wives, and he knew, from seeing what had happened to other players, that he would end up getting a divorce, or be cut from the team, if the wives didn't accept Eva.  No one admitted to team politics, but it was a real, as a bank deposit.

TC begin to think about, how much he loved Eva, yet he had a nagging desire to become the greatest pitcher of all times, and, he needed to stay on the team to make that happen.  He realized that he had put his professional goals, ahead of his marriage.

TC was upset with himself, and wondered why was he thinking about Eva, when it was Amy, who was in trouble?

The fact that the media and his mother had been supportive of his divorce, had helped him to feel secure about his actions. However, he knew in his heart, that his grandmother would not have approved.

TC realized while sitting in his automobile that both Eva and Amy had played some serious games to gain favor in his life. Eva was coached by his grandmother and it appeared, that Amy had been coached by his mother.

TC than realized why his mind was rushing from thought to thought.  He felt betrayed.  Deep down, he felt that he had been manipulated.

At that moment, the police officer knocked on his car window.

The officer asked TC  to follow him to the police station.  The officer was concerned about the crowd which was forming in front of Amy's home.

Once at the station, TC was escorted into the Captain’s office to tell what he knew. The surprise of the day, was not what TC had to tell the police, but what the police, told him.

Detective Redford was elected to give TC the upsetting news.

Amy had confided with the police that she was attacked because she was married to a black man, and that she had left the marriage to protect herself and him. But then she found out she was pregnant, and was happy to see TC, that afternoon.

Amy told the police that she had been threaten by telephone, on two separate occasions, but felt that the treats were a hoax or TC’s ex-wife trying to frighten her.  When another girlfriend, who was also married to a high profile African American, confided in her, that she too, had been threaten, Amy had taken the threats more serious.

Detective Redford was concerned with how TC would take the news. He went down the hall, and came back with a cup of coffee for TC.  He then asked TC if there was anything he could do?

TC took a sip of the hot coffee and slowly looked at him and responded, “Ya, you can make a better cup of coffee.”  The two men laughed, and Detective Redford left TC, to cope with, what he had just learned.

TC felt more like a suspect, then a husband. Amy had been hurt because of him. How could he ever make it up to her?

About 10 minutes later, TC recomposed himself and explained once again, to the police, that Amy was picking up trash around the yard, when a black SUV, with tented windows drove up, extremely fast, and suddenly stopped in front of her house.

TC went on to explain that he did not witness the attack because of where he was parked.

When the police asked TC did he see the license plate of the vehicle? TC thought for a moment, and replied, “It didn’t have a license plate in the front, or the back.”

TC’s description of the man who got out of the SUV matched that of the neighbor’s description.  About 5’11”, white male, with short hair cut, wearing a black jump suit.

Finally, TC was allowed to leave the police station. A couple of his team mates meet him at the front door as TC was about to leave.  The team mates suggested that they all leave out of the back door. There were hundreds of fans and dozens of reporters outside of the police station, all hoping to get a glimpse of the famous, and talented, Tanner M. Chase.

As the months went by, Amy went through reconstruction surgery for her face and based on the photos in the newspapers, she was more beautiful then ever. TC had requested and received the best plastic surgeons available, for Amy.

He was disappointed and a little hurt that Amy would not return his calls. Even Amy’s doctor suggested that TC respect her wishes, not to see him.

What Amy told the police, never made the news, there were rumors on the internet, however, no one substantiated the rumors, or even addressed them.

An award leading to an arrest of Amy’s attacker had reached $500K.

An inmate from San Quentin had telephoned the DA’s office in San Francisco concerning the attack, but the police never found any support for his claim.  The inmate  reported that an organization within the prison system called the “Sons of the Federation,” had planned to attack certain US citizens, in an effort to purify the race.

Without a guarantee, of receiving the reward, in a personal account, the inmate, suddenly had a memory problem.

The divorce between TC and Amy was finalized. Amy sent a note through her attorney, saying that she would contact TC soon.  This was of little comfort to TC, as his life went into disarray .  He had lost both of his wives, to the politics of professional sports, in America.

The void feeling that he had since childhood only deepened.  There were always people around him, yet he continued to feel, alone.

He had gotten his wish, a larger slice of the American pie, but at what price?  He had lost himself, his first wife, his second wife, and, his unborn child.  Amy had lost the baby, due to the emotional trauma, or at least that's what he was told.

TC knew his grandmother would have been ashamed of him. He was ashamed of himself, and often used prescribed drugs, to get through the long nights.

His batting average had gone down and his fast ball had slowed down.  A kid named “Lopez” was getting all the baseball media.  The coach encouraged TC to see the team’s psychiatrists, twice a week, to help him recover emotionally, and, on the field.

Even though the general public was not aware of the threats made on Amy's life, his coach, and team mates, knew and supported him.

Seeing the team doctor was a good thing. The sessions where  informal. The fact that the doctor traveled with the team, made it easier for TC to confide in him.

With the help of the team’s doctor, TC was able to understand his mother’s conditional love as the root of his need, to be famous and successful.  He also came to understand, that he had  “made the decision,” to be one of the best pitches, in the league.  Why"  Because he wanted his mother’s love and approval.

With this new revelation, TC begin to feel in control, of his life.

After TC's divorce and failing baseball career, he decided to become a Sports Agent.

TC realized that he had “MADE” the decision to be one of the very best major league pitchers in the league, and now, he would “MAKE” the decision to be one of the best Sport Agents in the country.
